For almost 40 years the 40 mm machine gun M/48 was the standard machine gun on most naval vessels, here seen on the motortorpedoboat SØBJØRNEN.

The frigates of the HOLGER DANSKE Class were fitted with four guns, but two were dismantled in 1954.

The motortorpedoboats of the SØLØVEN Class was normally fittet with either one gun (fore) and four torpedotubes og two guns and only two torpedotubes.
From the middle of the 1980's the aft gun was permanently replaced by 1 ea 20 mm Machine Gun Mk M/42 LvSa.

The tender ÆGIR was fitted with six guns, but one were dismantled in 1963.
